'Taste Masking' of Bitter Drugs with Pharmaceutical Grade Ion Exchange Resins

The problem of bitter and obnoxious taste in paediatric & geriatric formulations is a challenge to the pharmacist in the present world.

We have developed an innovative technology of ' Taste Masking ' of various bitter drugs using different pharmaceutical grade Ion - Exchange resins . The principle behind this technique of making a tasteless complex is very simple and does not involve major capital investment.

A drug - resinate complex is made from the Bitter drugs & Ion - Exchange resins. The nature of the drug - resinate complex is such that the average pH of 6.7 and cation concentration of about 40 meq/ lit in saliva are not able to break the drug - resinate complex but it is weak enough to be broken down by the hydrochloric acid present in the stomach. Thus the drug - resinate complex is absolutely tasteless and stable , with no after taste , but at the same time its bioavailability is not affected.

With our technology it is possible to make ' Tasteless Drug - Resinate Complex ' of various bitter drugs and can be used these drug - resinate complex in formulating not only the conventional dosage forms like tablets and capsules , but also other dosage forms like dispersible tablets , chewable tablets and oral suspensions.
